one more reedland in the world !

Yes, I do it again. Do you remember my idea of Guerrilla Gardening becoming Guerrilla Wetlanding?
Well, last week, with the help of the municipality of Desenzano del Garda and the friendship of the Lega Navale of Brescia-Desenzano I was able to plant more than 200 plants of our loved Phragmites. Was not the real concept of Guerrilla but I worked under a real funding project.

Within the ecological network idea we planted a new reedland (...or a new wetland as you prefer!) to connect the inland to the waters, in the shore of the Garda's Lake in Italy. The biggest lake in Italy and South of Europe.

just arrived

a great root potential

let's go to the shore...

ready to be planted

the new home

what a great view....!!!

Yes, MESOPOTAMIA IS DRYING !!!!
Do you know the Garden of Eden where the civilization start and where humans start to live in community, start to make bread, beer, homes, agriculture, breeding, farming and so on... that place, after the time of Saddam now is drying again.

Take a look to these pictures shooted few days ago and compare with the ones that I took on 2013 and 2014!

Welcome to Bozcaada ... Turkey

Hello.... few months ago I was contacted by my friend Dr. Mark Nelson (www.wastewatergardens.com) which told me: "David, a new project in Turkey, let's go".
Well, last week I went there, in the island of Bozcaada! Check the history on wiki/Tenedos or Bozcaada .

Which is the problem here? few years ago was built the city center pipeline to collect all the wastewater. Then was set up a septic tank and also the aerobic tank.... but never finished and still now the wastewater goes by a long pipe somewhere in the sea.

why not to build a wetland treatment? I was there to do it. Now I'm dsigning it and be sure that for the next Spring a great system will be operative there!

This is not the only island in the world that has this problem. How many do you visit? how many times you seen a big pipe direct into the sea? Well we can solve this problem with a wetland system.
Thank you Sibel for the local tour and hospitality.

the present situation

my friend Sibel shows the situation

a good mix of green technologies in Brasil

hi friends.... few weeks ago I was jumping between different pages of facebook, web etc and by a common contact in Brasil I found this perfect image elaborated by Leilen Monti (on fb at leilen.monti) ....

... as you can image it regards to wastewater treatment... or in portuguese Tratamento de efluentes.
This is part of a specific garden course on organic farming, permaculture, ets and as you can see they are developing the "Jardins Comestiveis" that means "Edible gardens" watered with rainwater or wastewaters....

Which plants they are using? obviously vetiver, banana etc...

follow them on fb at Jardins-Comestiveis

President Obama in the Everglades

As many of you know, I love the Everglades. I visited many years ago but I still keep them in my heart. Everglades is one of the biggest world wetland.
Nive to see that President Obama pass his World Earth Day in the Everglades, where Florida is affected by the climate change... the sea level is raising too much!

Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care. WED 2015

My idea for the WED 2015 blog competition start from the original WED theme:

Seven Billion Dreams.
One Planet.
Consume with Care.

My WED 2015 theme this year is therefore "Seven Billion Drops. One Big Oceans. Consume Water with Care." Water is moving without planetary boundaries and is the most promising strategy matter for ensuring a healthy future. Human prosperity need free water access and need safe water. Living sustainably is about doing more and better with less, but humans, animals and plants need water for their life. It is about knowing that rising rates of water uses are not good and the environmental impacts that occur in our planet are often driven by a not necessary needs of economic growth.

It is about knowing that rising rates of natural resource use and the environmental impacts that occur are not a necessary by-product of economic growth.
